Smokey The Bear

Going back and forth from Point Dume to our office in Malibu, I always check the fire danger in the Fire Department Station.
I love that small bear that shows the wildfires risk. His name is Smokey The Bear.

Smokey the Bear has been the mascot created to educate public about the dangers of forest fires since 1947 (You can learn more about him here).
I thought it could be really fun to bring him to life in 3D.

It took me several attempts. I was working on this model for almost two weeks in my spare time. You never now how much work 3D can be until you actually start. It’s the sketching, the modeling, then you need to work on textures, colors, materials, lights, and finally the render. The process is quite time-consuming but I love it.

Each step of the process has its charm. In big studios I can totally understand why they have different people or teams for each part of the process. For just one person team every single model can be a lot of work. Specially if you plan on making animations for movies or develop video games.

I specially like modeling and texturing, even if I have created only two characters so far. I never thought designing and creating stuff on 3D could be so fun and full-filling. The possibilities are infinite and I love that! Keep posted we are working on really fun stuff…
